Rain Foils Mercer Raceway Park; Doubleheader Weekend Next

Mercer, PA (July 19, 2014): Steady rains overnight and continuing into raceday inundated the track and grounds at Mercer Raceway Park forcing a cancellation of the Racing for a Cure Night. The event benefiting the American Cancer Society will be made up at a later date.

Next week, the speedway will host a pair of racing programs. July 26 will feature a Saturday Night Live! event. Sunday, July 27, will be the make-up date for Smackdown!, round two of the contest between the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds and the BRP Modified Tour.

Riggs’ 358 Mod Upsets the BRP Big Blocks at the Park

Mercer, PA (July 12, 2014): Lonny Riggs, affectionately called the “Tugboat,” docked his Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modified in victory lane in round one of the Smackdown! at Mercer Raceway Park. It marked the first time in the history of the rivalry that a Mercer-legal 358 defeated the Big Blocks of the BRP Modified Tour! During the event, Riggs turned the fastest official lap for a Modified of any sort at the Park, 17.100. As Riggs circled the speedway, fireworks could be seen over the backstretch from a bicentennial display on the town square.

George Englert got his third victory of the season in the Rock Concrete Modified Lites. Jimmy

Morris inherited the lead when C.J. Jones pitted during a red flag stoppage in the Bonnell’s Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors. Morris went on to gain his third triumph of the year. Rusty Moore did it again in the Precise Racing Products Open Stock Cars, coming from last on the grid. It was his fifth visit to victory lane at the Park.

Williams Wins Week before Wedding

Fink, Feil, Moore, Longwell Jr., and Jones also Score

Mercer, PA (July 5, 2014): Eric “Turkey” Williams registered a dominant performance in the nonstop 410 Sprint Car feature at Mercer Raceway Park presented by Luxaire Heating & Cooling and McCrudden’s Heating & Supply. It was his first triumph of the season and it came just a week before he will tie the knot with Dayna Gainor.


In the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds, Kyle Fink grabbed the lead on a lap six restart and he held command the rest of the way. The win moved him back to the top of the points standings by seven points over runnerup Jimmy Holden. Andy Feil took his third win of the season in the Bonnell’s Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors. Trusty Rusty Moore captured his third straight victory, and fourth overall, in the Precise Racing Products Stock Cars. Steve Longwell, Jr. returned to the winner’s circle in the Mini Stocks, presented by Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking and Ray’s Racing Collectibles. The nightcap for the Rock Concrete Modified Lites was worn by Rod Jones.

“You should win when you start up front like that,” Williams said with a sigh of relief. “I had to run hard the whole way because I had no idea who was behind me or where they were.” But, Williams did admit that be backed things down a bit with about five laps remaining when he saw the temperature gauge creeping up. “It got a little hotter than I’d like, and I was fortunate that I had such a big lead at the time,” he explained.

The Kittanning Comet Returns to Mercer’s Victory Lane

Guidace, Bova, Moore, Spinneweber, Hickok and Myers Also Winners

Mercer, PA (June 28, 2014): The Kittanning Comet, Rod George, was sighted in victory lane at Mercer Raceway Park for the first time since the opening race of the season. The 410 Sprint Car that he rode to victory in the Luxaire Heating & Cooling/McCrudden Heating & Supply sponsored event was the same machine that tumbled end over end a few weeks prior. Master craftsman Ronnie Trevis “fixed it good as new,” George said. He got to celebrate with the Twin State Auto Racing Club this night.

Frankie Guidace won the one-lap dash for cash in the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds. Cody Bova grabbed his first career victory in the Bonnell’s Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors after an opening lap crash in turn two decimated the field. Trusty Rusty Moore chalked up another win in the Precise Racing Products Stock Cars. Caleb Hickok earned his third triumph of the season in the Mini Stocks presented by Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking and Ray’s Racing Collectibles. The Vintage Dirt Modified go went to the Reno Rocket, Les Myers.

Sodeman Is Mid-Season Champ at Mercer Raceway Park

McGinley, Morris, Englert, Moore, and McConnell also Crowned

Mercer, PA: Herr’s snacks presented Meet your Heroes Night at Mercer Raceway Park. Jack Sodeman, Jr. stormed to victory in the Mid-Season Championship for the 410 Sprints running under the twin banners of Luxaire Heating & Cooling and McCrudden Heating & Supply. The win unofficially put him into the lead in the season’s standings.

In the Mini Stock division, sponsored by Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking and Ray’s Racing Collectibles, points leader Mike McConnell padded his lead with a wire-to wire victory in the evening’s opening feature event. J.R. McGinley took advantage of Eric Gabany’s difficulty navigating through lapped traffic to capture the win in the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds. Big George Englert took the unofficial points lead in the Rock Concrete Modified Lites with his win and a disappointing outing by defending champ Shane Pfeuffer. Jimmy Morris romped to victory in the Bonnell’s Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors. Rusty Moore prevailed in the finale for the Precise Racing Products Stock Cars.
