Murdick Bags Second Win of Weekend in BRP Modified Tour at the Park

Bauer, Blazak, Schwartzmiller, St. Pierre also Win

Mercer, PA (August 17, 2013): Dave Murdick continued his hot streak, picking up the big win in the annual visit of the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour to the shortest track on the circuit, Mercer Raceway Park. Murdick’s win continued the domination by the Big Block Modifieds over the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds that race weekly at the speedway.

Michael Bauer sped away from the field to grab a key win in the Bonnell’s Collision Center Outlaw Sprint Warriors, as he saw his points lead shrink last week. Pete Blazak dedicated his win to Martha Stearns, the mother of fellow Mini Stock Competitor Wally Stearns. Mrs. Stearns is battling cancer. The Mini Stocks are offered by Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking and Ray’s Racing Collectibles. Bob Schwartzmiller scored another win in the Precise Racing Products Stock Cars, while Rick St. Pierre carried the day in the PA Vintage Modified class.

Dave MurdickMurdick was pleased with his win in the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified go. His car recently came back from the Troyer shop, and it has been fast eve since. “The track was good and racey tonight, and I enjoyed it.” Although Murdick was able to work all over the track, he made the most of the outside groove. “I didn’t think there was going to be an outside groove, but we were able to make that work.”

“We needed a caution there at the end,” said Brad Rapp. He was closing fast, but ran out of laps. “I think we would have had something for Dave, as the car was working really good, but the last 25 going green didn’t help me.”

Kekich Wins One for “Putsy”

Flinner in FASTRAK, Guidace, McEwen, Moore, Pfeuffer, and Hickok also Prevail

Mercer, PA (August 10, 2013): There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Adam Kekich crossed the finish line for the win in the 410 Sprint feature, presented by Luxaire Heating & Cooling, New Wilmington Motors, and Ralph Butch, Inc. As expected, the third generation driver dedicated the victory to his late grandfather, Paul “Putsy” Kekich, who was a very popular and successful racer in his day.

Colton Flinner won his first career Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC FASTRAK Northeast Regional Touring Series Event. Frank Guidace scored in the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds in the final tune-up for next week’s Smackdown! with the BRP/Hoosier Tire Modified Tour. Joe McEwen chalked up a win in the Bonnell’s Collision Center Outlaw Sprint Warriors, and Shane Pfeuffer got back on track in his quest for a first championship in in the Modified Lites offered by Big Daddy’s Speed Center and Rock Concrete. Caleb Hickok and “Trusy” Rusty Moore took top honors in the Eperthener’s Auto Wrecking/Ray’s Racing Collectibles Mini Stocks and the Precise Racing Products Stock Cars, respectively.

Adam KekichAdam Kekich had a little extra help taking the win in the 410 Sprint Cars, presented by Luxaire Heating & Cooling, New Wilmington Motors, and Ralph Butch, Inc. No doubt, “Putsy” Kekich guided the young racer to victory lane. Although the young pilot started on the front row along with “Superman,” Arnie Kent, it was Kent who broke out to the early lead. Kent, who was substituting in the Martha Dionise 15 for vacationing Scott Preister, kept the top spot through several early cautions, one of which claimed point leader Eric Williams, who spun off the top side of turn 3.

Rod GeorgeWith Dan Kuriger and Eric Williams on the front row for the start of the 410 Sprint feature, presented by Luxaire Heating & Cooling, New Wilmington Motors, and Ralph Butch, Inc., everybody knew that it would be a barn burner of a race and it did not disappoint. Kuriger broke out into the lead early until the caution came out for the spinning car of John McCracken Jr. on lap 4. On the restart, Kuriger really started to show that he was there for the win by breaking out to a big lead but things would change on lap ten when contact with a lapped car coming off turn four would end his strong night. The restart put the point leader, Williams, out front with Andy McKisson and hard charging Rod George on his tail and ready to pounce. Another caution appeared on lap 13 for the stopped car of Gale Ruth, Sr. That proved to be the break that George needed. When racing resumed, Williams and George battled back and forth, side by side, for the next five laps, with George finally coming out on top.
