Mercer, PA (April 25, 2011) – Mercer Raceway Park and Auto Racers for Kids Charities announced today that the two organizations will team up to provide a contest to see which race team can raise the most money for Auto Racers for Kids in conjunction with the Sprint Car Shootout benefiting Auto Racers for Kids at Mercer Raceway Park on May 28, 2011. The team that raises the most money will receive a $500 prize provided by Stewart Financial Services.
Teams are encouraged to think outside of the box to fundraise for the children’s charity, which will designate all 2011 proceeds for Community Shelter Services’ Back to School Program in Erie, PA. Money can be raised through sponsorship, a portion of team t-shirt sales, donations for autographs, and much more!
Spithaler, Holden, Griffin, Teeters, O’Brien, and Blazczak Victorious in 60th Anniversary Season Opener
Mercer, PA – After a long winter and two weeks of cancellations, Mercer Raceway Park finally opened the 60th anniversary season with an exciting night of racing. Eager race fans filled the grandstands to watch 96 race teams kick off the 2011 western Pennsylvania racing season with the first Saturday Night Live program of the year.
Track conditions were excellent for the debut of improvements made over the winter, with drivers praising the new clay and configuration throughout the night. Winners were Brandon Spithaler (Luxaire Heating & Cooling 410 Sprints), Jimmy Holden (Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds), Guy Griffin (ti22 Performance Outlaw Sprint Warriors), Jeff Teeters (Big Daddy’s Speed Center Mod Lites), Chad O’Brien (Precise Racing Products Stock Cars), and Pete Blazczak (Big Dog R/C Mini Stocks).
Brandon Spithaler captured his first victory of the season in the Luxaire Heating & Cooling 410 Sprints for his second career win at Mercer Raceway Park. Brian Ellenberger started on the pole and took an early and commanding lead while Spithaler jumped into second from this third place starting spot in the 25-lap feature. Ellenberger looked as if he had it all wrapped up until he took a tumble in turn two on lap 22, putting Spithaler into first position.
Mercer, PA – Mercer Raceway Park announced today that the UFo Chiller Thriller will be postponed until further notice. An attempt to reschedule the race for Wednesday, June 22 had been made with UFo officials, however Sharon Speedway will be running their All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Ohio Sprint Speedweek race on that date. As a courtesy to Sharon Speedway and local race fans, Mercer Raceway Park will not be running the UFo Chiller Thriller on June 22.
